Questioning Social Media

Are we REALLY socializing when we use the social media?

With the growth of the Internet and technologies these days, we can search for our long lost friends and meet some new friends. We are even able to follow a wide range of communities around the globe through these various Internet-based social network media. However, are these “encounters” the same as “socializing”? Do we still need to interact face to face? How can we guarantee these “social” relationship through these various social media technologies?

Social media is just part of simple communications in recent years as well as the way we express our indirect opinion, I myself I would rather use direct socialization rather than communicate through social media, Perhaps, social media is so much better and useful if it is used for long distance communication and long distance relationship.
Therefore if you still have your foot and your mouth is still able to produce sound, why don’t you socialize with your friends, mate, colleague, and family directly?

I cannot agree more: “Perhaps, social media is so much better and useful if it is used for long distance communication and long distance relationship”. I think that social media can be a powerful tool to solve many issues we face today but only if it is used in proportion. I noticed a lot more recently amongst new friends I made that the first question they ask is what is your Facebook? or Do you have Twitter, Instagram, Path? Do you use WA?Line? As soon as they find your profile in one of these platforms, conversation ended right away forgetting… Read more »

To passionately play & participate in the Social Media is one of the new activities found among the many activities of today’s modern society. We can see and feel the tendency that “passion” is irreplaceable even in an atmosphere of ongoing real social life, eg. family gathering, meeting friends / friends, children and parents, meeting companies and many other things. It really is all very wonderful, all the facilities and ease/practicality that has been “prepared” by all the various businesses and facilitators that have made all these social network media services and sites. But are we really aware about what… Read more »

Hi Guys, are we social beings? Can we say we are social only by interact each other (face-to-face)?

It’s been a long time since I last opened Listen To The World.. Cheers!

to me, social media is great!
but i think (for myself) i still need to interact face-to-face.
so, maybe we can not say “only” here, but maybe the key word is “interact”
but what kind of “interaction” and how the “interaction” is executed?

reading the comments above, i think most of us agree that we prefer face-to-face interaction, then why the social media is still growing stronger?

I agree that the value is different (more special of course) when we interact face to face, but i doubt if it’s irreplaceable. From my personal experience hanging out with friends (although not all of them), they’re busier to interact with their gadget rather than with my “face”. The truth is sad..

A friend of mine, Mira Desliana Rukmana, commented on facebook: “Absolutely we still need to interact face to face. The value is different and its irreplaceable. No doubt.”

Here’s something to think about when you think about posting on social media; from the Guardian: “‘Overnight, everything I loved was gone’: the internet shaming of Lindsey Stone”

To me socializing on internet is distinct with face to face interact. On internet we could reveal our thought with self-confident, there is no hindrance to unleash the idea. Sometimes in real interact we encounter distraction from its people or others before accomplish the words, in addition i am not good enough to talk. I do believe in face to face interact is the best way to socializing even i feel it would gain our social skill and improves the people to think wisely.

But talk too much on internet is not the way of socializing, to be social person is have to be to take a part in social activity, why? because when we take part on it’s social we need real action in real life (be committed). it perceives your words and minds to take an action in real world. Imagine if there is an riot in our city and we do talk much about it on internet without an action in real life, It’s not solution nor an action

In my humble opinion, social media is just one of many tool for us to socialize. Which means that there are many ways for us human to get in touch and interact one another. But whichever tools we choose, there were always consequences, whether good or less. For example, if we choose to interact face-to-face, hold a community gathering and so on, on the plus side we’ll have a real experience with the “real” human, and on the other side, we have to make the time, arrange the place, prepare the food and so on. If we choose to interact… Read more »

Man is endowed with the power to choose. The options man chooses, are of course chosen to avoid the worst consequences. In face-to-face communications, (sometimes) to interpret and simultaneously attach meaning is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand. Although in the time range of mere seconds, there takes place processes that involve the senses of hearing, thinking, feeling. It is this within this very quick process that things happen which I consider to be essential in quality socialization. This is the way I think anyway, but I don’t know how about for others is quality still… Read more »

I think I am deceiving my self if I say I can really feel the good effects of socializing through social media, right? Anyone agree with me?
