Seoul Lantern Festival
November 3 - November 19
This year’s Seoul Lantern Festival theme is “Lights of PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games in Seoul,” and hundreds of lanterns bearing people’s wish for a successful host of PyeongChang 2018 Olympics will embroider Cheonggyecheon Stream.
The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games will be the second Olympic games to be held in Korea. It will be a global festival that will show the tenacity and patience of Koreans, who finally won the bid to host the games at their third attempt.
The spirit of Olympics is to achieve the restoration of humanity and world peace through sports.
The Olympic games, aimed at encouraging participation rather than contention for victory and harmony rather than competition, provide a reminder of the true meaning of undertaking new challenges and shedding toil, in addition to inducing national harmony and bringing together people across generations using sports as a medium.
The lantern will present the stories of toil and passion at the Olympics and at the same time shed light on the inspirations found in sports and the beauty of the lights.
