Canary Islands Music Festival

The 34th edition of [Canary Islands Music Festival] starts on January 11th in Fuerteventura, an island that will share this year the series concerts with Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The festival starts with a great production by José Carlos Plaza, a prestigious theater director who has won the National Theater Prize three times. The festival also counts on one of the great musical formations of the world, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Another guest in this edition will be Vienna Chamber Orchestra with Dalibor Karvay as conductor and soloist. The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Guillermo García Calvo and the great Russian pianist Alexei Volodin.
Visiting the non-capital islands will be Nordic Voices, a magnificent choir composed of six of the best voices in northern Europe, Ensemble Praeteritum, performing two clarinet and string quintets, and the Klengel Quartet, four cellists belonging to the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, who will offer an heterogeneous program ranging from Bach to Carlos Gardel. They will continue with the project “Follow the Music”, in which young music students from all the islands are involved.
The objectives of this event are to enrich the islands’ cultural life, to give the Canaries international musical prestige, and to promote high-level cultural tourism. It is also the only European festival to be held in winter, thanks to the islands’ excellent climate. The festival hosts concerts by top-level international artists, both orchestras and soloists.
