Amsterdam Light Festival
January 29, 2018 - January 20, 2019
With the realisation of more than 200 artworks since 2012, Amsterdam Light Festival has developed into one of the largest light art festivals in Europe. In a short time we were able to make light art known to a wider audience. Every year, artists from around the world work on a new exhibition that is made especially for Amsterdam. After their premiere in Amsterdam, a number of these artworks are included in the permanent collection that travels the world.
Amsterdam Light Festival brings together visitors and artists from all over the world in the dark winter period. By exhibiting high-quality and innovative light art in the public space, the festival aims to involve, inspire and enlighten its visitors, artists and partners.
The lifecycle of an artwork does not stop after the festival. In order to give the artworks and artists a long-lasting international stage, part of the works is included in Light Art Collection. Throughout the year, a team is actively engaged in finding new exhibition opportunities. At present Light Art Collection is the largest light art collection in the world.
Amsterdam Light Festival is actively engaged in making the new generation enthusiastic about (light) art and offering a platform for new talent. For this the festival works together with the Breitner Academy and Juf op Straat. In an annual education program, supported by workshops and lectures, pupils and students from different study programs create a work of art that is included in the exhibition.
