55th New York Film Festival
September 28 - October 15
America’s preeminent film presentation organization, the Film Society of Lincoln Center was founded in 1969 to celebrate American and international cinema, to recognize and support new filmmakers, and to enhance awareness.
In 2015, The Film Society also has a new education initiative focused on bringing film into the classroom through screenings, discussions, and production, in order to bolster visual literacy learning in neighborhood elementary schools.
On September 10, 1963, first New York Film Festival opens with Luis Buñuel’s The Exterminating Angel in Philharmonic (now Avery Fisher) Hall.
Since then, the New York Film Festival has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center. In addition to the Main Slate official selections, the festival includes newly restored classics, special events, filmmaker talks, panel discussions, an Avant-Garde showcase, and much more.
The New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent.
